The Orange Tree Theatre is delighted to announce that its Arts Council grant has been reinstated, having been under the threat of a 17% cut.
The argument for taking money from the Orange Tree was that we exist in a culturally well served area and that they needed to put into effect a strategic process to prioritise in other areas.
We met with Arts Council officers and responded to the proposals with a very well reasoned case which resulted in the grant being reinstated, a decision which reflects the Arts Council’s belief in the quality of the Orange Tree’s work and recognition of its significant London-wide reputation. The Orange Tree is London’s only permanent theatre in the round and its commitment to unearthing forgotten classics gives it a national significance.
Without full funding the Orange Tree would be unable to continue with its unique programme of work as well as its many education and outreach projects, and so it is with relief that we learn that the Arts Councils’ full support will continue. The funding has been secured, with inflation, for the next three years.
We thank you for your support and look forward to welcoming you to the theatre soon.
