In Anecdotal Evidence, her first collection of new poetry since 2011’s acclaimed Family Values, Wendy Cope celebrates ‘the half-forgotten stories of our lives’ with compassion, wisdom and wit. She continues to be the most generous of authors, sharing her experience of childhood and marriage, and writing poignantly about the passing of time.

Since the huge success of her first collection, Making Cocoa for Kingsley Amis, Wendy Cope has become one of the country’s best-loved poets – witty, playful and wise. She makes a welcome return to the Orange Tree to read work from across her career, and take questions from the audience. The performance will be followed by a book signing.

‘I think a lot of my poems, although there's humour in them, are saying something that matters and something that's deeply felt’ Wendy Cope

‘I like your deadpan fearless sort of way of whacking the nail on the head – when everybody else is trying to hang pictures on it’ Ted Hughes
